Wednesdays, April 7, May 5, and June 2, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Education Association invite district and BOCES teams to apply to participate in a free, virtual professional learning series focused on investigating systemic racism to promote equity in schools. This opportunity is not another training, but rather a deep exploration of issues of equity through the lens of race with the goal of supporting leaders to create policies that enact equity and encourage the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce in support of all teachers and increased student success.
This professional learning series consists of three four-hour virtual sessions where teams will be asked to examine the roots of racism as well as the current-day manifestations in government and education polity and practice. Participants will be asked to critically examine the systematic ways in which race is endemic, not aberrational, in the American society, and how various forms of privilege and power intersect. Teams will be supported to lead and create policy from an equity perspective for their districts.
Districts/BOCES are asked to submit ONE application per district/BOCES. District/BOCES may collaborate and create a joint team with regional districts/BOCES but should only submit ONE application per team. Teams must consist of 3 – 6 members and should consist of individuals/leaders who can influence, advocate, and enact district policy and practice.
- At a minimum, teams must include at least one (1) district leader, one (1) principal and one (1) teacher
- Additional members may include other leader(s) including a teacher, special services provider, parent, school board member, and/or community advocate
We strongly encourage labor/management collaboration! Please work with your local association leader(s) or their designee when creating your equity team.
District/BOCES/Regional equity teams can apply by completing an Online Application Form, to include a completed Equity Team Contact List and Equity Team Response Sheet (to be uploaded within the application form). Applications are due no later than Friday, March 19, 2021.
Sessions will be facilitated by The Gemini Group, LLC, a Colorado-based organization dedicated to helping groups achieve not only a greater understanding of the foundation and dynamics of racial equity, but more importantly, how to implement equity to reduce disparities in communities and to improve outcomes for all residents.
