Young Athletes

Offered by Special Olympics Colorado, Young Athletes (YA) aims to welcome children with intellectual disabilities (ID), ages 2 1/2 to 7, and their families to the Special Olympics movement. YA is a sports play program for children with and without ID, offering families, teachers, caregivers, and people from the community the chance to share the joy of sports and play with all children. YA aims to (1) engage children with intellectual disabilities through developmentally appropriate play activities designed to foster physical, cognitive, and social development; (2) welcome family members of children with intellectual disabilities to the Special Olympics network of support; and, (3) raise awareness about the abilities of children with intellectual disabilities through inclusive peer participation, demonstrations and other events.
