Local Library Programs are a Great Resource for Area Youth

Many libraries offer after-school and summer programs for area youth. Yuma Public Library in Yuma, CO has offered a summer reading program and after-school reading groups along with many other programs for years. The summer reading program is themed based by the state library association. Area youth can earn prizes from local businesses for keeping a reading log completed during a specific time frame. The program also includes guest speakers, events, and end of program/summer party. The after-school program held twice, once in the fall and spring, is a small group setting. Youth are grouped by their age/grade level, read a specific book, and engage in a group discussion about the book. These opportunities provide a place for area youth to engage in social-emotional learning, connecting with the community, and personal growth. Don’t overlook your public library it has many resources available for free!
