With school buildings being shut down during the COVID-19 outbreak, myself and Wellness Specialist, Johanna Bishop, wanted to continue offering nutrition education and cooking skills so we decided to create a virtual program! Within our traditional programs, Culinary Classroom and Culinary Life Skills, we go into classrooms at all grade levels and present nutrition education along with hands-on cooking. More information can be found at www.greeleyschools.org/studentwellness.
To go virtual, Johanna put the call out to our Nutrition Services team to see if anyone would be willing to film themselves making a recipe and share some nutrition education information. She provided a sample script and recipe ideas. So far we have completed four videos which can be viewed on our student wellness page. There is also a great handwashing video from our Executive Chef. Several more videos are in progress. We envision these videos to be useful in years to come as a marketing tool and ongoing nutrition education. This was also an opportunity for us to continue sharing information about how our Nutrition Services department is getting food out to the community during this public health crisis.
